The Storm

We were hit by a crazy storm on Tuesday night, knocking out power for about 30 long hours. We were initially told no power until at least the weekend so imagine our glee when it came back on at 11pm last night! Loud cheers could be heard through everyone's open windows.

Our damage was minimal. We have a fan-shaped decorative piece of siding that is over a double window on the second story - it was ripped right off the house. Other houses in my neighborhood are missing roofing shingles, flashing, gutters, and some tree/car damage (we don't have giant trees near us - one reason the neighborhood was appealing!)  We were lucky. Just a half mile down the road, trees were down everywhere and at least 3 homes were have been declared uninhabitable.  Much of the white vinyl fencing surrounding these homes is gone. Not just laying on the ground - but gone.

The National Weather Service has surveyed the damage and said it was "straight line winds" and I suppose they are the experts but it was pretty damn close to being a tornado. Can straight line winds have a defined path?! We've never had winds & rain like that before.

I can confirm that living like the Amish sucks, even for just a day. We are spoiled, for sure. It's okay. I can own it. There is nothing fun about living without electricity in June.

BarkBox Review ~ Box #2

So our second BarkBox arrived in the mail the other day and once again, I got the shipping notification after the box arrived. So weird.

The 2 blue toys are really nice but the dogs are indifferent toward them. They definitely like stuffed toys that they can rip apart better ... lol

The bag of treats were liked as usual.

I could have done without the dog scarf. It's cute, of course, but my dogs don't enjoy "clothing" at all. Maybe it's a Shepherd thing.

Here's proof this puppy is growing - she's 4 months old now!

Too Much to Waste!

I've been using L'Oreal Paris's Miracle Blur for over a year now. I really like this product. It's light, non-greasy, and really does smooth my skin before I apply my foundation. The only "con" is it's expensive - $20 per tube.  But a little goes a long way so that is a plus!

However, the packaging is terrible. It is VERY difficult to squeeze the tube when you're fairly sure it's almost empty. The tube is too stiff. Imagine my surprise when I decided to cut open the tube to see how much I was about to throw away?  I was flabbergasted:

Look at all that product I almost threw away!  That it at least a week's worth of applications people!  Come on, L'Oreal!  There is a better way to package this product so we actually get to use all of it!

FYI - I tried the Miracle Blur with sunscreen in it. Don't bother. It's sticky and smelly and just not the same.  I guess I'm not the only one who feels this way because when I went to purchase a new tube of the (normal) Miracle Blur, I bought the last one on the shelf but there were about 10 boxes of the sunscreen version.

So in summary, cut open that tube before you you toss it! You will likely be amazed (and annoyed) at how much is getting wasted inside that dumb tube!

Interesting Week

I'm ready for the weekend. Nothing good has happened this week other than the awesome new elevated feeding stands I ordered for the dogs arrived.

See? They are absolutely perfect.  I know some don't like the ceramic bowls but they help keep everything in place and sturdy. I bought 2 extra bowls in case one breaks. And at those prices, you can't beat it.

There was an incident at our regional high school this week that I'm not sure I want to get into. It involves a photo of an extremely questionable and misguided display on a wall from an assignment given by a Humanities teacher. It's safe to say it did NOT go over well. Social media was ablaze which prompted tons of calls and emails to the school. I hope a very valuable lesson was learned and I'd be okay with the teacher loosing his/her job over it. I think I'll leave it at that.

A good friend who lives too far away got in touch with me last night to let me know her husband's grandma had passed away. This woman was fantastic and very energetic. They are grieving her loss. And to make matters worse, their 15 year old Chihuahua had a stroke last night and they had to put him down.  Her 3 girls are devastated. Too much loss in one week and a terrible way to start summer break. I am so sad for them.

The FULL Story from McKinney

Since responsible journalism is a thing of the past, please, please, please read the whole story here. And stop believing that every questionable incident between police and citizens is racially motivated because it's simply not true.

Don't let the name of the website sway your opinion until you read the article. THEY did their homework, unlike our mainstream media.

I'm so tired of this. I really am.  This country is in so much trouble. When did it become okay to ignore a police officer's orders, regardless of whether your "feel" they are justified?  In what world do you think it's okay to charge at a police officer and for him not to feel threatened? The police IS the authority, whether you like it or not.

I do not want to live in a society without a police presence. That's a very scary thought.

If you think you're being unjustly treated by a police officer - just cooperate. Every fool out there has a camera set to record and your "injustice" will be seen, one way or another.  Stop looking for a  windfall, obey the damn law, be civil, be polite and get a job.

Catching Up

Life seems to be in a lull at the moment. Spring sports have ended, school is winding down, dogs are shedding uncontrollably ... I haven't felt inspired to cook or bake anything and I can't remember the last time I was on Pinterest, despite having the app on my phone. So what do I do with my free time?

I have no idea. I go to work, come home, feed people, feed dogs, clean up after dogs, walk the dogs, love the dogs ... I've reached a point where I prefer to be around dogs instead of people! Is that really a bad thing?!

I have a new show I really like - The Willis Clan. This is a family you should be watching. The kids are smart, talented, musically gifted, and well-rounded. And they actually work!

I also really like the show Younger. It's about a 40 year old divorced mom who re-enters the work force after her divorce and she pretends she's actually 26. Sutton Foster plays Liza and Hilary Duff plays Kelsey, her friend she met at work. It was renewed for a second season. I recommend checking it out!

What I can't wait for is the new season of  Orange is the New Black, releasing next Friday!!

So yep, Dogs and TV. My life.
