Where Did April Go?

I cannot believe tomorrow is May 1st. What? This month just flew by and now the end of another school year is in sight. The boys have state testing next week and once that happens, pretty much everyone mentally checks out of school.

I've made no summer plans for the boys this year. In years past they would attend a summer camp offered through our school district. They would go 2-3 times a week, depending on my Husband's schedule.  Last summer I heard nothing but complaints about how boring it was and how it was full of "little" kids. I actually think Bud was the only (going into) 6th grader enrolled in the camp.  Age-wise he can still go this year but I will probably let him stay home.  I haven't decided whether I will let the other one stay with him.

We have one trip planned and another is pending. The planned trip? I really need to book a hotel! We're just going away for a long weekend with my Husband's brother and his family.

I always said I would never ever drive to Florida but I'm actually considering it.  My dad lives down there and with my brother's rental properties, I always have a free place to stay. I keep hearing more and more airline horror stories and I'm disgusted with how complicated and expensive it has become. However, driving 16 hours doesn't thrill me either. But if we drive, I can stop in NC to visit my oldest and dearest friend! Decisions, decisions!

All of this must happen before August, of course, because heaven forbid we interrupt the beginning of football season.

No-Rinse Pet Shampoo

This stuff is awesome.

I brushed out the beast and lathered him up in sections. It lathers nice and then just disappears! Then I towel-dried him and brushed him out again. And BAM! He smells like lavender.

'Tis the season for lots of brushing because Gunner sheds like there is no tomorrow this time of year.

Obviously this won't replace a proper bath but for the in-between baths, this stuff is a Godsend. I found it at Walmart for a whopping $5.97. Worth every penny!

Easter, a Little Late

But that's how I roll ... Here are a few pictures I snapped on Sunday. With my cell phone.

The Ambrosia Cake is DELICIOUS.  I did leave out the coconut and added maraschino cherries. It's not Ambrosia without the cherries!

I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend too!

Overheard at Walmart

Boo and I headed to Walmart on Sunday night for a few things. Plastic Easter eggs and new folding camp chairs were on the list.  We tossed our old chairs in the trash after the Lax Tournament on Saturday. They were one butt away from breaking and the storage bags had been duct taped together too many times. Their useful life was over!

We were having a great time in the store, picking up the few odds and ends we needed. We stopped in the floor care aisle because I was out of the wood floor cleaner I like to use (Murphy's Oil Squirt & Mop) and I refused to pay grocery store prices for it when I know it's cheaper at Walmart and/or Target. And of course Walmart didn't have it for whatever reason. When I turned around,  Boo was rearranging all the foil boxes on the shelf. I watched him for about 5 seconds and said,

"Umm, what are you doing?"

"Playing Jenga!"

That boy ... and the unexpected things that constantly come out of his mouth which makes me laugh out-loud and causes people to stare!

He's worth every stare.

How I Make Friends

My friend is over-the-top obsessed with the TV show Scandal. When the show first aired last year, it looked interesting but I already had enough shows on my plate and I didn't want to take on another one. Since the Season Finale was airing last night, I decided to have some fun with her yesterday afternoon:

me: can i call you around 10:15pm tonight?

friend: hell no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

me: lmao
me: i figured that's what you'd say

friend: I will cut you
friend: I will drive all the way to stinking New Jersey, and I mean stinking, and cut you.

me: well now you've baited me

friend: HAHAHA!!!

me: better yet, i think the best time to call would be around 10:56

friend: I won't answer but I will be flipping you off

me:  i crack myself up

friend: well it is good that you make someone laugh

I guess I should be glad she lives about eleven driving hours away otherwise she might make good on her threat!

He's 2 Today

Wishing our giant toddler a very Happy 2nd Birthday!

My wish for you this upcoming year:

Stop trying to eat small animals, including the cats you've lived with since you were BORN. You are a gentle giant with people and looooove kids but to small dogs and Tibby? You're a monster! They are not toys.

We love you anyway, you giant, smart, loyal, nosy, pain-in-the-ass! If you tip the trash can over one more time? I'm bolting it (and you!) to the floor. JUST KIDDING!

Easter Dinner

I'm hosting Easter Dinner this year. The menu will include:

Dinner

Spiral Ham ... because there is no other kind!

Mashed Potatoes

Pineapple Stuffing

Fresh Green Beans

Corn

Deviled Eggs

Coleslaw

Dinner Rolls

Dessert

Cupcakes

Ambrosia Cake  ... I will make it minus the coconut, in hopes that someone other than me will want to try it. My family is so boring!

Ice cream
_ _ _ _ _ _

And there will be an egg hunt, of course. I spent a decent amount of time the other day stuffing eggs for my young nieces and nephews. My boys, at this point, could careless!

I will be sure to recap all the dessert goodies early next week. I wish I could be a blogger who does it all in advance to post pictures and ideas before Easter but I'm not, so I won't try. I am in touch with my limitations.

The Weekend

I should just embrace what my life is right now: lacrosse and soccer. It's really my only social outlet other than family. Kind of sad, I guess, but one day my boys will move out and then I'll have time for a social life.  I find it really hard to balance all of that plus work and run a household. So the friend side of things does suffer but it's not because I don't want friends. Quite the opposite, in fact. But it's just hard to make the time. I like to stay home and I like to go to bed early.

I sound like I'm 85.

The lacrosse tournament went okay. The 1st game was great! The boys looked really good and won the game. The 2nd game was a disaster. The other team was a "club" team and they just destroyed us, showing zero mercy and ran the score up unnecessarily. It's a shame they couldn't remember why we were there in the first place - to benefit a cancer foundation. During that game, Bud took a very hard ball-shot to the thigh which has left a terrible bruise. But hey, that can be part of the game. He is okay.

The 3rd game was played right after the beating they took during the 2nd game so at that point, they were just done. Can't blame them! But the weather was absolutely gorgeous and we were there to support a great cause.

Boo's soccer team is still undefeated! Their record is now 4-0  -  the only undefeated team in the league.  They are playing so well. We are very proud of them!

Last night, on the way to yet another lacrosse game, Bud went into the garage to get his cleats and and gust of wind took the laundry door room door just as he was trying to close it, and it closed on his thumb. It was horrible. He did one of those sheer pain cries when no sound came out. He was unable to play in the game, but still cheered his team on from the sidelines. They won! The door caught just the tip of the thumb and it's black and blue on both sides. He will lose the finger nail at some point but he can bend and move his thumb so nothing is broken.  A rough weekend for him, no doubt! The poor kid!

Alive & Well

I'm just not feeling the blog-thing this week. Sometimes I just don't have anything to say and rambling on about our sports schedule isn't something I want to do.

Third quarter report cards came home yesterday. I'll admit it. I had no idea it was that time. The boys did well so I'm very proud of them.

I cannot believe we are in the home stretch of this school year. It's crazy. I'm not ready for Bud's transition to a very large regional school in the fall. So let's not talk about that just yet.

The pets are fine. Sick kitty is doing very well ... so well in fact I'm not convinced she's sick! Denial is awesome.

I'm still minus a bathroom on the first floor. I'm close to hiring a hot, tan, and muscular man to come finish the project for me. So close.

Fun Easter Decor

On a recent trip to The Christmas Tree Shop, I found these cute little LED bunny lights and I instantly knew what I was going to do with them:

The string of lights were $4.99 and use 2 double-A batteries.

So cute!!

Don't Judge

So I was a tiny bit bored on Saturday night. Hours and hours and hours of cold rain will do that to a person.

The dog was driving us nuts. He want to go outside but he hates to be wet.

Sissy.

So I took him into the garage and tortured him with a laser pointer until his tongue was hanging out and then I brushed him. Then out of boredom, I created a fur puppy.

I have issues.

We were able to squeeze in the lacrosse game on Friday night before the rains came. They won 7-3! But that happiness was quickly dampened (quite literally) on Sunday when they lost both games. I'm still shivering from the 2+ hours I spent sitting out in the rain on Sunday. It was miserable. The plus? Bud knows we love him since we sat through it!

Soccer was canceled on Sunday thankfully so our busy-busy weekend turned out to be not so bad. The laundry got done and a cake was baked just because.
