Football Birthday Party ~ Part II (finally!)

Better late then never, right?  One of my birthday traditions is to display the picture of them eating cake on their 1st Birthday. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I start getting eye-rolls!

My sister made the cake. We went small this year. She has cake skills I do not possess!

What's In Your Crockpot?

I have mad love for my crockpot. If you aren't using your crockpot frequently, then you are missing out on some tasty, easily prepared meals! At our last family gathering my father-in-law and I were discussing the brilliance of the crockpot and my brother-in-law jumped into the conversation. He has forbidden his wife from using the crockpot unless she is home. In other words, he doesn't want plugged-in stuff "on" while they aren't home.  I told him he was crazy and glad he wasn't my husband!

This is for dinner tonight:

The only change I made was NOT to cook it for 22 hours. I think that's absurd.  It was still partially frozen when I plopped that sucker into the crockpot at 8am this morning but it will be delightfully cooked by the time I get home tonight.  To be served with baked potatoes and broccoli. Yum!

I hope you crockpot soon!

Excuses, Excuses!

I know. I still haven't posted party pictures. Huge fail. Now it almost seems anti-climatic .... This unexpected surge of warm spring air has made me want to be anywhere but inside the house near a computer.  Over the weekend I began to pull weeds and even put my spring planter out on the front porch, where a pretty yellow primrose now has a home.  I even dusted off the bike and went for a long ride. I'm happy to report I'm not that out of shape because I was able to walk the following day!

My boys want to open the pool. They are insane. I must keep reminding them it's only March, this is New Jersey and it still could snow.  But they think *I* am the insane one.  I've seen April snow. It can happen!

So far, so good on the cat front. She has not peed in the house since before our vet visit. I've been adding some water to her wet food hoping to increase her overall water intake.  She spends a lot of time outside (her choice) but I'm aware she likely isn't eating or drinking while she's gone so that could be part of her "crystal" problem.  Both kitties have been transitioned to the new grain-free food and both are eating it! My only complaint is the aroma - it has a strong smell.  But it's better for their health so I'll deal with it.

My birthday is this weekend. Yay? Another year closer to 40 ... ugh.  That number is staring me square in the face.  The good news is I will be seeing The Hunger Games this weekend! I read all 3 books early last year and turned my sister on to them so now she's excited to see the movie too. I hope it lives up to all the hype!

Kitty Troubles

Ack ... cat problems. I hate cat problems.  My 5 year old cat T is peeing in my house. Actually, it's more of a marking type of issue but obviously an issue nonetheless.  We've been to the vet, $225 later. The vet was not much help, as I've been down this road before.  Her urine and blood tests came back fine, although they said her urine was highly concentrated causing a very low amount of crystals but since the amount of crystals was low, it's not a cause for concern.  I think I disagree.

Yesterday morning I was standing in my bathroom and T started walking toward me, like she was going to rub against my legs (typical cat behavior) but she circled me, turned around, and came back to sniff the small area rug I was standing on and I look down to notice 3 drops of urine - she never even squatted?!  My husband is ready to shoot her, the kids don't want her on their beds, and once again I'm trying to get inside this cat's head to figure out what is her issue.

On the advice of a friend, I went out last night to purchase new food - organic, healthier cat food with no grain. I also picked up a bag of the Cat Attract litter and Nature's Miracle for Cats to re-treat a few areas she's hit before. I also wiped down all my baseboards with straight vinegar, hoping to keep her away from the corners/side of the rooms. And I plugged in a Feliway, which hopefully adds calming pheromones to her world.

I'm crazy, I know.  She's on life number 8.5 ... I'm almost out of excuses for her.

Did I mention we are getting a puppy in June?  Go ahead, laugh, the vet did!

Football Birthday Party ~ Part 1

His party was almost two weeks ago and I'm just now getting around to posting anything about it? My excuse is work - I've been swamped. And then it seems like every weekend we are busy with something or I'm trying to catch up on housework and laundry. I hate doing laundry. And homework. My son's 4th grade teacher loves to assign "family homework" ... that's my favorite. The last statement is dripping with sarcasm, in case you weren't sure.

I did finally upload the birthday pictures off of my camera, only to discover I never uploaded our Christmas pictures?! I need an intervention! I'm losing my mind. As you can see, we had yet another football-themed party - the third one in a row.  Here is the table, before the snacks were set out.

The football popcorn boxes were a free printable I found online. They were easy to assemble. You can find them at the link below. She has a few other really cute printables too!

The football field plastic table cloth was found at Walmart during Super Bowl party time. Thankfully, it isn't ruined so I can reuse it! The little snack cups are filled with gumballs. I'm the favorite Aunt. You can see why!

Both parties were a great success. He had so much fun swimming with his school friends! We had a total of 12 boys there and the place wasn't crowded at all, likely due to the later start time of 5pm. It was perfect. I'd do it again in a heartbeat and I'm sure we will be because my younger son has already expressed an interest in having his party there later this year.

I think I like having a 10 year old. They are suddenly less needy. He's finally figuring out how to shower and use soap without being reminded 20 times. It's great!

Part 2 coming soon, I promise ... mostly pictures in that post, including the cake!
